The story of Love Links is a fantasy romantic comedy, based in parodying the harem genre. Its world is therefore rather ridiculous and spiteful in how it forces people into unusual situations.
To start, the world is populated by more than just humans. All supernatural comedies start this way, right? In the beginning of times, this was a widely known fact: Art depicts the angels and demons who really did exist, as well as the fantastical beasts like dragons, gryphons, and other beings that were quite real. The world was filled with a type of power called "Magic." You've heard of it, right?
Magic was an energy that was given to the world in order for it to grow. It was a free element that everyone could harness in order to grow, evolve, and develop. It was there as a gift from the planet itself, in order to encourage the new life to adapt in order to survive there. Some animals used it to evolve so they were suited to live in their harsh environments. Some creatures like dragons used it to adjust their size and co-habitat better, or even to render themselves vegetarians to avoid over-feeding! And of course, humans used magic to invent and push their civilizations.
But magic was not a free resource. There was a lot of rapid evolution in the early centuries so that life could simply exist, but it took a noticeable amount of the limited magic. There came to be a general agreement among the races that they should slow their evolution and be content. Dragons stopped changing sizes, Angels stopped switching their wing designs, Fairies chose to be tiny... But humans apparently missed the memo. Maybe it was because humans weren't physically evolving that they slipped under the radar. The human race continued to use massive amounts of magic not to change their looks, but to invent. They didn't need supernatural powers to frighten the other races into submission, using weapons and poisons that the others couldn't defend against. They also felt they didn't need the others and intended to wipe them out.
There was a war way back in those times, called the War of Evolution, which was a last ditch effort to defend against humans. All of the races took one last snatch of the remaining magic and forced themselves to evolve, hoping to create a unique bloodline that could survive humanity's civilizations. They stole from each other, killed each other, and brought destruction upon Earth itself. Then, one being rose up: The Memory Guardian ended the fighting with a flash of magic. She stole human memory of the other races and maguc, thus ending humanity's fight against them.
The others retreated into safety. Through their own evolution, many of them developed ways to hide from human sight. Fairies disguised as humming birds and butterflies, or simply hid away in Kingdoms guarded behind magic barriers. Likewise, Angels hid in the clouds and Demons far under ground. Humans continued to dominate the Earth's surface and develop weapons that all others feared.
This tragic turn saddened the Earth, which had only ever wanted to be happily populated. There was little to no magic left for the others to evolve and stand safely alongside humans. All of that magic had been sponged up by the rapidly growing human population: It was stored in their hearts and minds, and was what allowed them to be so creative and inventive. Mysteriously, magic was apparently genetic for humans: They passed their magic to their children in equal amounts, effectively creating more magic.
But there was a solution. If a human could form a close bond with one of the hidden races, they could share their magic with one another.
When this was discovered, the forgotten races saw a chance: If they could have humans fall in love with them, they could take their magic! This created a generation that was raised with one very strange goal: Learn how to seduce human effectively, and bring magic back to their Kingdoms.
